Orano USA, a leading provider of materials and services to the US nuclear industry, announced plans to locate a state-of-the-art centrifuge uranium enrichment facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Plans for the project include creating more than 300 new jobs, with an historic capital investment towards furthering an ecosystem for the future of nuclear advancement in the region. This impactful project was made possible through a broad TVA effort and collaborative partnerships with the U.S. Department of Energy, Oak Ridge Electric Department, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, Roane Alliance, Roane County and the City of Oak Ridge, Oak Ridge Industrial Development Board, Anderson County, United Cleanup Oak Ridge, East Tennessee Economic Development Agency, and innovative companies like Orano.

The Tennessee Valley Authority Board of Directors, on Thursday, approved $150 million in additional advanced nuclear funding to support continued design work and TVA’s development of potential small modular reactors (SMRs) at its Clinch River site near Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Board, which approved an initial $200 million at its February 2022 board meeting, has now approved $350 million in total for the project. At nearly 60% carbon-free, this investment to build clean generation accelerates TVA’s transition to clean energy to power the region’s growing population and economy.

Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, announced plans to expand operations in Middle Tennessee. Plans for the projects include creating 355 new jobs in Mt. Juliet and adding 100 new jobs at the company’s Smyrna location. Combined, both projects represent a total planned investment of $85 million to support increased production capacity and expand the company’s presence in the region. Economic development partners include Middle Tennessee Electric, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce and the Joint Economic and Community Development Board of Wilson County.
